These days, it’s getting colder and drier.
While I searched for things to prepare for the coming winter, Xiaomi’s new evaporative humidifier looked good, so I bought it.
There are two types of humidifiers: evaporation type and ultrasonic type. The ultrasonic type is mainly used for low cost and is a type that sprays water finely.
This method is generally inexpensive, but it has the disadvantage that bacteria and mold can also be sprayed and the surrounding area can become wet, so I chose the vaporization method.
Xiaomi Evaporative Humidifier 3 is in the cheap range among evaporative humidifiers, but its specifications are by no means cheap.

Price
When comparing prices on various sites and shopping malls, around $64 appears to be the lowest price.
I bought it on Aliexpress during this Single’s Day sale for $46.28.
Delivery
I ordered it on November 12th, arrived in South Korea on the 14th, cleared customs on the 17th, and received it on November 18th.
Even though it was guaranteed for 7 days, it took about 3 days to clear customs at Pyeongtaek Customs, probably because of China’s Single’s Day.

The waybill was attached directly to the product box.
Fortunately, it was delivered safely without any tears or damage.

First Impressions
The size is a little smaller than I expected, but it is still a bit too big to place on a desk.
It would be good to place it on the floor or a nightstand.
The overall design is white and has a simple concept, so it goes well with existing Xiaomi air purifiers.
The adapter has a rated output of 12V and 1.1A and is a Chinese 2-prong plug.
This is because this model has only been released for the Chinese domestic market.
(I don’t know whether it will be released globally.)
Depending on the seller, a conversion plug is included in the box.
If you lift the top of the humidifier, it can be separated like this.
The display, fan, and motor are located at the top.
The water tank, filter stand, and filter are located at the bottom.
Nothing special, but can see the waterway that sends water up between the filters.
A silver ion antibacterial box is attached to the filter base.
If purchase a genuine Xiaomi filter, an antibacterial box is also included.
I was curious about this silver ion box, so I looked it up, but I couldn’t find any specific information.
I think the antibacterial power has been certified several times through tests by an official Chinese certification agency, so it’s safe for the human body… right?
I don’t know if it’s an ultrasonic method, but since this is an evaporation method, I don’t think the silver ion materials will spread into the air.
I’m going to install and use it.
This is a water level indicator located on the front of the humidifier.
Although it does not light up, it has a red ball so can be easily seen.
This shows the entire humidifier disassembled into the top, water tank, filter stand, and filter.
There is an internal fan attached to the top of the humidifier, but it is not removable.
The water tank has a water level indicator and a water pump.
How to Use
Display and Control
The display is not touch-sensitive, but an LED light lights up next to the corresponding icon.
Wi-Fi is properly connected to the network if the blue light stays on.
When connecting the power adapter, a ‘beep’ sound will sound and enter standby mode.

- Short press in the operating state: Enter standby mode after automatic filter drying mode
(Drying time is set automatically. Sometimes it takes close to 90 minutes.) - Short press in filter drying mode: Enter standby mode
- Mode Switch
- Short press: Cycle through constant humidity, sleep, and turbo modes
- Constant humidity mode: Automatically operates according to the target humidity
(Target humidity can be set in the app, the default is 55%) - Sleep mode: Minimum airflow, continuous humidification, low noise
- Turbo mode: Maximum airflow, continuous humidification
- Pause Button
- Short press: Pause and resume operation
- Child Lock
- Turn on and off by pressing the power and pause button simultaneously for 7 seconds
- Unplugging and plugging in the power adapter disables this function
Mi Home
By installing the Mi Home app, you can control and monitor everything about the humidifier.
Firmware updates are also possible through the app, so I recommend connecting.
This does not support 5GHz like most IoT devices, so it must be connected to 2.4GHz.
You can adjust target humidity, set timer, cleaning mode, turn on/off at specified time, check filter life, set automation, etc.
If you press the three dots in the upper right corner, you can set child lock, display brightness, sound, etc.
However, since this product is for the Chinese domestic market, you must set the region to China to use this.
If you do this, devices set to other regions will not be displayed in the list.
Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem to work with Google Home.
If the water in the tank is not enough to run, a notification will be sent to the connected mobile phone as shown above.
The remaining amount of water cannot be detected, only the lack of water can be detected.
When adding water, be sure to turn off the power and disconnect the adapter.
Cleaning and Maintenance
Clean the water tank and filter once a week.
Clean the water tank with clean water, being careful not to let the contact parts for operating the water pump come into contact with water (3 rubber-blocked holes).
The water level indicator can be removed by pushing it upward.
Wash the filter 2-3 times under running water and dry it in the shade, avoiding direct sunlight.
Waterways should be cleaned once every 1-2 months.
Since water pumps and pipelines cannot be cleaned by hand, citric acid must be used.
Add the amount according to the instructions on the citric acid product you purchased to about 1L of water and mix well.
After that, put citric acid water into the water tank and run the humidifier’s cleaning mode.
When the cleaning mode ends (this will take about 30 mins), discard the citric acid water and wash the water tank, filter stand, and filter with clean water.
Filters and silver ions should be replaced with new ones every 3 to 6 months.
Since this is a respiratory-related product, I recommend purchasing genuine filters whenever possible, even if they are expensive.
You can purchase them on AliExpress for about $20 each.
When the display shows E1, the water level sensor needs to be cleaned.
If you look at the side of the part boxed in red, there is a groove and that is the water level sensor.
Just wipe it with a soft cloth.
Review
First of all, the humidifying capacity is sufficient to be used in a space of about 20m2.
There are no complaints at all about the humidifying ability as it reaches the target humidity fairly quickly.
Since it is an evaporation type, it can be used with an air purifier without any problems.
Considering only the humidification method, it is safer for the respiratory system than the ultrasonic method.
The fan noise tends to be very slightly noisy when the current humidity is lower than the target humidity.
However, when the current humidity almost reaches the target humidity, the fan rotates slowly and makes little noise.
There may be a sound of the water pump pumping water, but it is not a continuous noise like fan noise, so it was not annoying to me.
The top-fill function was also really convenient.
Previously, I used a humidifier that had to be filled with water directly into the water tank, but later I stopped using it because watering became a hassle.
Watering this product was convenient because all you had to do was unplug the power adapter and pour water on the display.
Of course, you can fill the water tank directly with water.
The biggest advantage of this humidifier is the automatic filter drying function and the filter does not directly contact the water in the water tank.
The function of stopping the water supply to the filter and automatically drying the filter when the power is turned off is very helpful in keeping the humidifier clean.
Additionally, since the filter does not come into direct contact with the water in the water tank, the filter can remain dry when not in operation, reducing the risk of odor.
Although it is a low-priced evaporative humidifier, it has excellent design, usability, and an automatic drying function that is difficult to find in low-priced products, so it is highly recommended if you do not mind purchasing a product directly from overseas.
