Mini Portable Laptop Riser Stand Review

These days, I’ve been using my laptop a lot more as I write blog posts here.
I’m using an LG Gram 2021, but the heat isn’t dissipating well.
More importantly, I’ve noticed that the low height of the laptop is causing a severe strain on my neck, leading me to consider getting a laptop stand.

While I do have a laptop stand at home that I used before, it’s rather bulky and not very portable.
It resembles a bookstand, making it inconvenient for use outside.
During my search, I found this riser stand on AliExpress, which not only has a compact size and a sleek design but also appears to be durable.
So, I decided to make the purchase.

Specifications

  • 1.5×1.1×0.9in
  • Zinc Alloy
  • Max Load 26~33lbs
  • Black/Silver

Price

Laptop Stand Price

I purchased it on AliExpress, which costs $3.25 for a regular purchase.
However, buying it at an Aliexpress Choice Section can get it for $1.5.

Honestly, paying the full price of $3.25 seems a bit less cost-effective, so I recommend buying it at the Choice Section.

Delivery

The product I purchased from the dollar store supported AliExpress’s 7-day shipping.
However, perhaps due to heavy snowfall in China at the time of ordering or an increase in year-end shipments, the product shipment was delayed considerably.
I placed the order on the 20th, and it was shipped on the 25th, arrived on the 26th, cleared customs on the 27th, and finally delivered on the 28th.

Thanks to the delay, I also got a shipping delay coupon.

Components

Laptop Stand Components

The accessories are quite abundant compared to the price.

From left to right, there are extra 3M tapes, additional rubber pads, and laptop support pads (the rectangular stickers).
(The main stand is not shown in the picture as it has already been attached.)

The laptop support pad is included in case the front rubber support of the laptop, which may detach from the bottom due to stand usage, fails to fulfill its role.
It can prevent the laptop from slipping by attaching it to the front underside of the laptop.

The attachment method is easy.
Just peel off the red sticker and stick it on the back of the laptop.

I attached it right below the existing rubber support.

Even in the folded state, it is slightly higher than the existing rubber feet, and when unfolded, it becomes much higher.

It was higher than I thought.

Laptop Stand Unfolded Height

When unfolded, there is approximately 0.9-1.2 inches of extra space.

It seems like this was originally designed for MacBooks, but if the underside of your laptop is relatively flat, this can be attached anywhere.
It comes in two colors: silver and black.

Both when folded and unfolded, it provides stability while typing on the laptop.
When attached to the underside, as long as it’s attached on a flat surface, there is no wobbling and shaking.
Even with both hands resting on the keyboard, it felt solid.

Since the LG Gram exhausts heat from the screen’s back hinge after taking in air from the underside, creating space under the laptop with this riser stand can help dissipate heat, providing some performance benefits.

Even when folded, it is slightly higher than before attaching, but I only felt this way right after attaching it, so it doesn’t bother me much now.

There were many reviews mentioning its weightiness.
It does feel a bit hefty initially after attaching it to the Gram, which is already a very lightweight laptop. However, now, it doesn’t seem much different from before.

The product page I purchased from didn’t mention leaving no marks after removal, but another page selling the same product did.
The stand comes with 3M VHB double-sided tape, and after checking 3M’s website, I found out that it may leave traces or adhesive residue when removed since it wasn’t developed with removal in mind.
If I get a chance to detach this later, I’ll do that and update this post further.

The components are great, the price is cheap, and it seems durable, so I highly recommend it to people who use a laptop for long periods.
